All my life, I had wanted a computer like all of my other friends.
Mainly because of the internet. The internet was growing and there was
and still so much you can do on the internet. My most common tasks were
chatting with friends online, looking at news about the latest video games,
and just browsing information about anything I was interested in. Finally, when
I was 14 years old, I got the chance to work all summer for my Dad's air conditioning
business. After working up a sweat every day of that summer, I finally got the
chance to buy my own computer. I signed up for AOL dialup, which it was the popular
choice at the time, and soon became addicted. Always observing what you can do with
this computer, browsing the internet, ect. Well one day during the following school
year, I was in highschool, and one night at home, a friend had messaged me and
told me about this website this kid from school made. On this website, this guy
had made a basic HTML/CSS website, just for personal use and for his everyday life.
But what got everybody's attention was the flash video cartoons he had made. They were
cartoons of everyday life at our highschool. Most of the cartoons were of teachers
that taught at the school and were making fun of them.( For example, in the cartoon,
he was walking down the hall and ran into a teacher he didn't like. The teacher in the
cartoon was not drawn to look like her. The teacher in the cartoon was drawn as satan. )
So I thought his overrall website was neat. His graphics, the colors he used,
the organization, the use of the site; it all grabbed my attention.
THIS WAS A NEW TYPE OF ART I HAD DISCOVERED
With me already being somewhat of an artist growing up(drawing as a hobby), this looked
fun. Not long after I was introduced to this way of art, I asked the guy who went to my
school of where I can learn this stuff. I was told to browse certain websites with information
on HTML/CSS for beginners. I was also introduced to Photoshop. I couldn't stop searching
tutorials for neat effects. Throughout the years, I had gained more knowledge, made my own
personal websites for fun. But I had not learned enough. Finishing highschool, I decided
on what I want to do for a career, and decided to go to college to learn more about web design.
Since I have been in school, I have already learned a tremendous amount. You can actually
tell that I have improved and learned a lot more if you looked at some of my work from when
I first started out compared to some of the work I do now. I believe I have always been
fairly smart when it comes to designing. I know what colors stand out and what looks good.
My biggest challenge is coming up with the right graphics, or just making them in general,
but I'm not bad at all. A lot of my teachers have also told me good things about my work
that they like, along with other students as well. So I'd say they have all given me a
good portion of confidence. And that is how I have became interested in web design.
